Which framework

All,

This might be a bit off topic, but being that you're all audio/MIDI programmers here, I thought I'd try you first.

I'm relatively new to the Mac, though I've been programming for many years on Linux, various Unix, custom embedded platforms and even Windows. I've got several years of experience with audio and in particular MIDI programs (in particular the ALSA API on Linux).

I want to build a MIDI and audio tool. It needs both audio code as well as UI. Obviously I'll need to use the core-audio API. But, I'm having a problem figuring out where to start. Which framework do I use: Carbon or Cocoa? Does core audio work with both? Can I get the same UI results out of either one? Do the UI design tools in xcode work the same with either one?

Sorry about being off-topic, but I'm a bit stuck with too many options and too little time to wade through the piles of docs that evaluating all options would require.

Thanks in advance for any help,
- Steve
