Thanks for the reply.
Changing the version did not solve the problem, but manually removing
GB's cache eventually made it.

Hi Erik,
just a guess: GB is limited to stereo only. Could it be your AU is
only mono? That would explain it.
Also, GB caches I/O information about your plug-in, so if there was
some mono-only config at some
point during development in the past maybe GB's cache still knows
that config. Increase your AU's
version number to enforce a cache update, or set the version
temporarily to zero.
Other than that, I don't see why an instrument would show in other
hosts but not in GarageBand.
