For this the AUVarispeed unit is ideal - it is doing exactly that (speeding up, slowing down) the audio, changing the pitch (as a tape player would).

If you want to also preserve pitch, or have control over both Pitch and Play Rate, then the AUTimePitch audio unit gives you that control.

You can test these two things out by running AULab (/Developer/ Applications/Audio) and making a track with a file player audio unit (a Generator), then add the varispeed or time pitch

Hi, I would like to take a sound file and speed it up (or slow down) in real time like a record deck. I'm presuming I would change the sample rate in real time?

How hard is this? is there an objective c wrapper for this type of function?

Thanks.
