Hi all,
I'm trying to add a simple audio unit (i.e. tremolo) to my iPhone code. I'm
lost and I was wondering if Apple provide an example how to do it.

I don't know of any read-made example but my understanding is that you need to set up an audio graph. The CAPlayThrough sample code shows how to do it, although they insert a varispeed audio unit instead.

See the AudioUnit programming guide [1] to learn about audio units and the Using the 3DMixer Audio Unit tech note [2] for an example of how to set up an AUGraph.
