Oliver is correct, of course.

The primary advantage of 64-bit mode is the ability to address more than 4GB of memory (and in some cases the 32-bit limit was really only 2GB). So look for 24-bit sampler AU instruments with gobs of virtual/ physical memory beyond the 4GB barrier.

Regarding 64-bit audio processing, you can do that in 32-bit mode or 64-bit mode. The 32/64 mode is really about the address bits, not the data bits.

To sum up, I think auval in 64 bit mode should force the plugins to accept a
64 bit audio stream (as well as 32 Bit), or am I totally confused?

I would say confused. 64Bit stream and 64bit memory space are two absolutely different things.

Moreover you usually talk about 32 bit stream meaning float streaming,
a 64 bit arch only means that int are 64bit not floats.
