It is a shame loosing precision at every plug-in stage.
Yes, sure. But I do wonder if this is more of a theoretical concern than
a practical one.
The input/output/storage format is 24 bit these days.
Requantizing to 24 bit for every plugin can't be a good thing and I imagine
it is audible with the right signals/monitoring.
Even if it wasn't audible, most DAWs offer double precision mix-bus, and
people I've talked to have been saying that's what the market is demanding
for a couple of years. VST has it. Just based on these facts alone (lets
call that a 'marketing concern') I'm surprised that AU doesn't support it
as an option.
