I am trying to use LAME in my iPhone recording app to perform recording in Mp3 format. But it's perfomance is very low. and mu application gets hanged . So is there any way to convert the audio data using LAME on the fly with good peformance.

Since LAME  isn't provided by Apple, you might have better results asking them about performance of the encoding library.
