I am trying to use LAME in my iPhone recording app to perform recording in Mp3 format. But it's perfomance is very low. and mu application gets hanged . So is there any way to convert the audio data using LAME on the fly with good peformance.

Are you OK with your app being open source? Because compiling LAME into your app means the app becomes infected by the GPL, meaning you'll have to give out all of its source code. (Yes, the Free Software Foundation has successfully sued several companies for failing to abide by the GPL.)
