There shouldn't be. The preference should be Cocoa, but Carbon if you
don't have that. If its the other way, please let us know and we can
follow up with the host apps.
2) Is anyone in the AU community documenting such host-specific
quirks as these?

Why not special case the carbon view publication to host that you
know (by host identifier and version) only do carbon hosting, but
otherwise always just publish the cocoa view (or both even) - AULab
handles seeing both (it just prefers the Cocoa view), so I don't
know why this is a problem for host apps
