Without knowing what Logic was doing at the time of the hang, there's
no telling what might be going on here. To get that info, you can
sample Logic when the problem happens and provide that information to
us for diagnosis.
In fact, a SpinTracer report might be available if this is causing
Logic to actually SPOD. The SpinTracer report has the same basic info
as a sample trace, but for all the processes on the system.
Either will give us a glimpse of what Logic is doing when it hangs.

I'm looking for advice on how to "reset" CoreAudio without rebooting
my system, if it's possible.
The background is that I'm having occasional problems with Logic Pro
9.0 on my system (first with 10.5.8 and, now, with 10.6.0) where after
some period of inactiity, Logic stops responding to incoming MIDI.
Case in point:
Last night I was auditioning samples using my Korg NanoPad to play
Kontakt 3.5 in Logic. I left the project open so that, this morning I
could continue. But, this morning, Logic is not responding to the MIDI
from the nanopad any more. No MIDI information appears in the
transport window. Yet MIDIMonitor shows me the MIDI messages are still
going out from the NanoPad.
This has happened before and the usual solution is to restart Logic
(which was what I wanted to avoid in the first place given how long it
takes to load all the samples but, hey ho) however Logic stopped
responding when I tried to quit. After many minutes I had to force
quit Logic from Activity Monitor. However, on restarting Logic, it
hangs while "Initializing CoreAudio".
My system seems to be fine, other apps route sound to my Mackie FW
interface, but some part of Logic's interaction with CoreAudio appears
to be wedged. At this point I'm faced with rebooting the machine again
but I wonder if there is some kind of "master" CoreAudio reset that
can be done without a reboot?
I tried search Google and didn't turn up very much. I experimented
with killing the coreaudiod process. That restarts itself but Logic
still hangs during Core Audio initialization.
If this was a once-in-a-blue-moon thing I could live with rebooting.
But it's more frequent than that and a significant disruption to my
workflow. If any of you guys have any suggestions they'd be
appreciated.
