Perhaps OpenCL is more useful for things like a convolution reverb
where you can offload the processing required to update the impulse
whilst the user edits some parameters. Things like that? Doing high
quality sample rate conversion whilst importing files in your DAW in
the background? Bouncing a track with 16 active plugins without
disrupting everything else? Maybe GUI's can do more fancy analysis
tasks too without eating into you're DSP time so to speak. More like
an assistant than a slave? I'm no expert on this at all though.
In the back of my mind I know there is something damn useful I can do
with all this - can't put my finger on it right now. I got the heads
up on the real-time usefulness of this stuff a few months ago so I'm
over the shock now.
