It all depends on your budget and required channel count. I'd say that RME http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products.php and Metric Halo http://www.mhlabs.com/ are a couple of my preferred vendors, and I've used both product lines extensively when programming and also when doing recording work. The vast majority of their interfaces work very well on both Mac and Windows platforms.

That said, they aren't bargain priced interfaces either. If you're looking to get in cheaply, look at M-Audio. But be aware that I have found that many cheaper interfaces exhibit much higher degrees of self-noise than their pricier counterparts. You really do get what you pay for!
