its not really funny at all. its a natural outcome of what happens
with documentation for just about any niche technical stuff. there are
hardly any programmers in the world who need this information. my
guess is that at least 10x more developers find a manual on awk(1)
more useful than documentation on CoreMIDI. what happens when there's
basically no commercial market for a technical book? you're seeing it
in action.
iOS has changed things a little bit - the barriers to entry there are
small and the potential sales numbers are large, which has created a
new stimulus for developers who want to play with music
creation/pro-audio apps. whether its enough of a stimulus to pay for
good book on CoreAudio and CoreMIDI (neither of which are really
dominated by iOS issues - the recommended way to do audio on iOS was
barely even in "core" CoreAudio) is something it will be interesting
to see.
