I'm talking about audio, not midi???
And the Duet also shows up only once as an output in System Preferences
- Sound.

I'm using the Apogee ONE, and different inputs and outputs are selected
using the data source. If you can see it in Audio MIDI Setup, then you
should be able to select it with CoreAudio APIs.

Thanks to the various people who replied about this.
If anyone's interested, I found that the main download at
https://github.com/liscio/CAPlayThrough
in fact builds and runs fine on 10.6.8
But testing it with an Apogee Duet 2, which has 2 independent stereo outputs (for speakers and phones), PlayThrough lists the Duet for output only once, as "Duet USB". So it cannot select between the two outputs. Of course, you can select them using the "Apogee Maestro 2" software provided with the Duet.
So I guess what this means is that such controls are proprietary? That 3rd party developers like me are not supposed to worry our pretty little heads about such things, we should simply offer the user "Duet USB" as PlayThrough does, and tell them to use the manufacturer's supplied software for greater control?

Yes, thanks. The only thing is, it says "Runtime Requirements: Mac OS X
v10.7 or later".
However I will take a look at it, to see if the parts I want might run on
10.6.
I've also been recommended to look at

Hello, is there any sample code showing how to select and use different
