I believe that "SB Tech" is correct in his use of the term "DAC."
The only requirement for that terminology is that there be digital
input and analog output, with conversion that correlates the two.
USB is most certainly a digital data stream, so a USB-DAC is a valid
subcategory of DAC.
Granted, if a USB-DAC also offers microphone or line input via ADC to
the computer, then "DAC" would be a misnomer. That said, there are
plenty of USB-DAC products that offer output only, and thus are using
the terms correctly.
