This appears to be the case, unless there is some way of telling the OS to disable the volume controls regardless of the presented descriptors. Given that both of my current DACs present the same problem, a system-wide change (presumably reversible at a later date) would be no skin off my Port-rosey nose. :)
I can't see a firmware update for my Beresford being forthcoming, but the Fiio is a possibility.
so you need revisit your belief that the USB audio interface you are
using has no accessible volume controls, and if its correct, tell the
manufacturer.
