If you are attempting to capture the audio coming from another app in the iOS world without that apps knowledge then the answer is no.

I'm very new to Audio Units and have been trying for a few days to understand how to use the remoteIO unit.  I am slowly coming to the realization that what I want to do I can't.  Can anyone on the mailing list give me a definitive answer as to whether or not I can somehow directly capture the sound being output from a game?  I am trying to build a screen capture framework for game designers to use to build short video segments showing their game in a quicktime movie format.  I can capture the video but not the sound.

I was hoping that the use of a audio unit would allow me to capture the audio buffers coming from the game.  Can remoteIO do this?

thanks for any help understanding this scenario.
