Kevin,
Yes, I know... my question wasn't "how do I file a bug for this". It
was "how do I collect the necessary information for this type of a
hang so that by bug report, which I intend to file at
bugreporter.apple.com is complete so that it has a better chance of
being understood by the engineers that need to figure out the
problem". Sorry I should have been more clear.
It doesn't seem like just saying "My computer hangs when a USB device
is plugged in" is enough for Apple to troubleshoot the problem. ;)
Is a system profiler report enough? Would it be more helpful to Apple
if I got into EFI land and then plugged in the device and ran some
(unknown to me) commands? That's why I'm posting to the list - to
determine what needs to be done from a triage perspective so that my
bug report is sufficient.

I asked the Darwin list because it seems the most likely place to
get a good answer on how to get an appropriate bug filed, but now
that I look at lists.apple.com again, there's a boot-dev list... I
think I'll post there instead.
The best place to file a bug for any Apple product is <http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
>.
