Folks,

There are some known issues with the Common Access Card Viewer App. The Application is not installed by default and is unnecessary for 99.9% of you since you can Unlock, Change PIN, and View the keys/ certs now within Keychain just as Ed just described.

The desire is to move remaining value of the CACViewer over and eliminate the app all together.

Comments, questions, opinions.... ? send to me directly please...

-Shawn

If I recall correctly, that is what happens if you try to use the Card Viewer.

If you want to check your pin, click on the large lock in the upper left corner in Keychain Access when you have your smart card entry selected. You should then be prompted for your pin.

Note that we seem to have to click on anther entry and back on the CAC entry to get its lock to show open!

All,

Having a problem with getting the Common Access Card Viewer to work, and I'm looking for suggestions.

User does not need smartcard login capability. (It is not allowed at this site)
but it is needed for secure e-mail/authentication.

User is running 10.4.1, SCR331 with firmware 5.1.8.
When a card is inserted, "smartcard #2" appears in Keychain access, as do x509 and others.

When I run the Card Viewer application, it asks for a PIN number.
I'm using my own card; and I know the pin being entered is correct.

Enter pin. fails, loops back to enter pin dialog
Enter pin. fail, loops back to enter pin dialog
Enter pin. fail, then the viewer crashes with the "send report to apple" dialog box.

Once it crashes, I can re-run CardViewer, but it will not see any inserted card until I unplug/reconnect the reader.

Also tried the users card, but it exhibits the same behavior.

Both myself and the user are admins. I tried logging in as root then accessing both my and the users card, but Card Viewer still crashes.

So - for those that have CACs working with 10.4.x, what might I be doing wrong?

Thanks!
Jim
