I can sign emails but the automatic signature seems to have stopped.

Hello everyone.
I've just gotten back to my MacPro after being on vacation for two
weeks. I immediately downloaded many software updates and my system
is now at 10.4.8. I'm now having a problem signing my emails. I
start Apple Mail and compose an email yet it doesn't allow me to sign
my emails. Before I left for vacation this was all working fine --
using the Apple signed Certificate found in the login keychain
generated when you enable iChat Encryption -- this URL describes how
to do this http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?
story=20051121134558157
All I can think of is that 10.4.8 could have caused this problem.
Google searches don't show any revealing results.
I've gone into iChat, disabled encryption, then removed the
certificates from the login keychain and enabled iChat encryption and
the certificates were recreated. However, Mail still doesn't allow
me to sign my emails.
Anyone else having problems with this after 10.4.8 update?
Thanks
Dalton Hamilton
