Don't know about your memory issue but reference your daughter's issue with files. I just got off the phone with Apple about an e-mail issue (BLUF: There's no way to download a file and save it anywhere else on the Iphone except keeping the e-mail with the attachment in a folder.) Tech Support reminded me that those files are not really on your Iphone. You're just viewing them from the server. So if you choose to delete the files from the server (one of the mail options) those documents are gone...forever if you haven't forwarded and saved them to a "real" computer somewhere.
Now since you CAN download photos to your phone it makes me wonder if you could rename...Never mind. :)
