Check the Console.app log. HD problems will show up there.
Also, try swapping memory out. Most of my "can't resurrect" problems
that *weren't* HD related were memory problems. Depending on usage,
memory problems sometimes won't show until some threshold is reached.

Has anyone had success resurrecting a MacBook Pro from the Blue Screen of Death after installation disk and safe starting have failed?
As the ironies of life would have it I finally got an Iphone ordered. However, my MacBook Pro died yesterday in a blazing glory of BSOD after I downloaded the latest Safari and updated Firefox. Whooda thunk it?
I called Apple and their answer after several failed attempts at rebooting with Installation disk one and seeing no problems with the computer's hard drive but several repaired permissions was just to send the large aluminum paperweight back to them. I've Googled my little heart out but none of the instances (usually involving plugged in peripherals or third party software) mimic my case.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue before I send it off so it is not going one way while the new Iphone which I will now be unable to activate without Itunes comes the other. SIgh.
(Other symptoms, I suspect strongly the culprit is Safari or Firefox or both. All other programs worked fine for a while but those two failed to even load and Force Quit would not work on either. I had to restart several times to be able to reload an older version of Safari from Time Machine; Safari then opened. But when I rebooted again (the only way to Force Quit the programs in order to run Time Machine restore) with the intent of restoring Firefox, it would not pass the blue screen, no matter how often I tried rebooting or praying or crying.) :)
