I have noticed that my phone (1st Gen) has had better WiFi reception/range around my house after the 3.1 upgrade. No noticeable reduction in battery life nor freezing.
I know most folks on the list are more concerned with the iPhone's connectivity and productivity, but my favorite feature of the 3.1 upgrade is that Apple has "fixed" the iPod's memory! Ever since OS 2.0 (or perhaps before it), whenever you close out the iPod and use other apps, the next time you open the iPod, it doesn't remember what you had been playing last. This was annoying, but apparently everyone learned to live with it. Now, you can pause a track, open other apps, then go back to the iPod and - Hallelujah! There's the track you were previously playing!
