I looked at Sun's, oops!, Oracle's website and found Oracle is now delivering it's own Oracle VM that runs on Sun hardware without any server OS (like ESXi). I priced the lowest costing Sun server I could quickly find, Sun Fire X2270 M2 Server-1U, and it works with VMWare so I assume it would work with Oracle VM as well. For $3332 list, you get a single quad-core Xeon E5620, 4GB RAM and a single 1TB drive. More than what Apple charged but not much more. (Single power supply, however.)
All we'd need to replace Xserves with Sun equipment would be Apple and Sun to agree to allow OSXS to run on it natively and/or virtualized. Will that be available with Lion? Will it be available sooner? What's keeping it from being available right now? Just the EULA and a little work by Oracle/Sun?

Maybe there will be a special deal where you can run Mac OS X Server on Solaris.
