Unfortunately the problem you are having with the passwords has been going on for a LONG time... I've been on iCloud since the second they opened it up to developers. In my opinion there were still way too many problems to even have it close to being ready.
I am speculating here, but I think iCloud for all intents and purposes is just a rename of mobile me. The internal workings (although at the new datacenter) are all based on the same technology MobileMe was... minus some functionality like the iDisk.
It's already lost content through iCloud on iOS devices with Pages for me... I've had duplicate contact problems... I suspect they will get them worked out, but Apple should have learned from the MobileMe fiasco...
They want people to "trust iCloud"... yet had I not been testing and really relied on iCloud for pages documents, I would be SOL...
And I will NEVER, EVER trust my music collection to a cloud service...
I will admit that I've been buying more Digital Copies of movies from iTunes, but that is because they let me download them and keep them...
I will NOT buy a BluRay disk unless it comes with a digital copy companion on itunes.. to me it's worth it to have both and not have to go through the trouble and time to rip the DVD/BluRay for my collection.
But starting Tuesday some crappy service called "UltraViolet" is now on a few DVDs (Horrible Bosses to be exact)... they advertise DIGITAL COPY included, but it's just a stream of the movie! You do not own it!! You need a network connection to watch it... in fact I do not think it should legally be able to be called "Digital Copy".. it should be called "Streaming included".
Digital Copy to me means a digital copy I own...
Needless to say I did not BUY the BluRay.. I forked out $15.00 and bought the iTunes version... the UltraViolet scam (with studio backers I might add) did not get my money, and they never will.
That's one thing Steve Jobs always instilled with iTunes... "People want to own their content".... I hope Apple continues that tradition. Streaming is a crock of crap, and eventually will make cell phone carriers richer and richer... and as home ISP providers (Comcast, ATT) decide to start capping data, it turns out you'll be paying a bunch of people for one copy of something that you do not even own...
UltraViolet = UltraStupid, UltraRipOff.
Oh, and iCloud needs to get their act together :)

I completed the entire suite of upgrades yesterday (10.7.2 everything, iOS5 on an iPhone 3GS, iCloud migration, and AppleTV update). It took time and everything finally worked but this morning I'm one of those iCloud users who can't get to their mail. My password keeps getting rejected and their error shows server problems so I'll just give it some time to calm down. Apple is limiting the number of migrations (support website), which obviously means a ton of people are already moving to iCloud.
I believe I only had to run the iOS5 update once but it took longer than usual to download. Complete installation took 20-30 minutes because it had to reload apps and music. I'm running fine and my photo syncing test worked. Mail was working fine yesterday and through the night so it must be those east coast people hammering the servers this morning that's messing things up (just kidding).
As for testing, I'm sure they did but there's no way to test a million users all trying to access the software and upgrade at the same time. I'm surprised these problems haven't hit the airwaves, at least I haven't seen any.

Well, after nearly having coronary arrest from busy servers bricking my phone and telling me my backup was gone, it finally recovered and I was pleasantly surprised. I was especially excited by the "speak highlighted text" addition though it only works for emails and not iBooks or Kindle books (may the person who made that decision enjoy low vision to share that frustration.) It uses that awful Voice Over voice which seems like such a stupid choice. And it would be nice if the notifications could be set larger so I could read them. Otherwise, nice touches. :0)
My 6 month old iPod did not upgrade properly (purchased directly from
Apple). I'm too scared to try my iPad (the last three updates from
Apple on my MacBook and iPod have had problems).
I sure wish Apple would fully test this stuff. I feel like I'm paying
for beta software at times. No Christmas bonus for the QA team....
