The Android process (or lack thereof) is a throwback to the 1990s. I
basically begged Google to do something at

HTC and Asus provide updates also. HTC is a bit of a laggard, though.

Apple is not much better. They left lots of vulnerabilities to rot and
fester while working on their iPhone 5 press release.

Ditto for the toxic Diginotar certificates.
Microsoft finally got it right with Windows Phone. Microsoft requires
carriers and OEMs to patch as part of their program.

I'm convinced the only way to fix the problem (first, you have to
recognize it as a problem) is through legislation. Waiting for
companies and organizations to "do the right thing" is not working.
Too many companies and organizations do nothing because it is cost
effective.
Consumers and users need effective legislation with teeth that
broadens the definition of sensitive information (currently, its
centered around PII). They need to be compensated for the spending on
items such as credit monitoring; they should be compensated for their
time in fixing the screw ups of others (such as changing passwords);
and they need to be able to enjoin in a class action without worry the
suit will get tossed.
