Hi,
Dave commented:
#When I booted up another Core 2 Duo machine of the same era and then App
#Store, the link for "Free Mavericks" showed up under Updates. When I
#pressed the button, though, I got the message, "Mavericks cannot be
#installed on this machine." (That's a real shame, Apple should have
#supported Mavericks on Core 2 Duo 'or better'.)
#
#It is frustrating that App Store.app showed me an update that I couldn't run.
I might add that it would be terrific if the interface could be more
explicit about any/all deficiencies that are blocking a system from being
upgradeable.
For example, instead of just "Sorry, Mavericks can't be installed on this
machine," I'd much rather see, "Sorry, you've only got M GB of memory on
this system, you need at least N GB to be able to run Mavericks. Perhaps
you'd like add more memory?"
I'd also love to see a clear delineation between remediable issues (like
the memory problem, above), as well as anything that is simply a game over
show stopper (e.g.,"Sorry, you're running a Mac that's so old it belongs
in a museum, so don't even try to bring it up to the point where you could
install Mavericks, because that's NEVER going to happen, buddy" although
I'm sure Apple will always be more gentle about expressing that basic
sentiment :-))
Regards,
Joe
