HUH. I would have sworn that S/MIME REQUIRES you to send the
certificate you signed a message with, but I went and looked and it
turns out that it does NOT. It DOES require you to send the issuer DN
and serial number or subject key identifier of the certificate you used
for the signature, but sending the complete certificate is optional.
Go figure.
I wonder if only the second setting is the critical one, or you need both?
I certainly get non-clear signed emails every so often and they seem to
get through just fine.
