- Thread-topic: Installer hangs on system optimization
I studied the problem a bit and found that the problem appears only, when I am installing the package in background.
I have a daemon program for installing the packages. When I launch the daemon and close the terminal, the package would not install. What's more important, in such cases installer generally just fails and produces a strange message:
Couldn't register server on this host.
Sometimes, the installer manages to install the software, but fails on the system optimization stage with the messages listed in my previous mail.
If I do not close the terminal or run the installer manually, everything goes ok.
You may try to reproduce the problem as well. I have created a very simple package (I may attach it if needed) and tried:
1. SSH to a mac 10.3.9 machine.
2. sudo su - && exit
3. Now I am root and as soon as I exit, the connection will break.
4. sh -c "nohup installer -pkg test.pkg -target / &" && exit
5. Login back and check nohup.out. Here is the output in my case:
2005-07-11 18:40:59.046 installer[5600] *** -[NSInstallerSecurity runTaskSecurely:withKey:onPort:]: selector not recognized
Is there anything I could do about the issue?
Thanks,
Andrei

Subject: Installer hangs on system optimization
Hi!
I have created an apple package (pkg) for my software and tried to install it. Software seems to have installed without any problems, but the installer application remained hanging. Here are some messages from the /var/log/install.log:
Jul 8 19:49:29 localhost installer: Running task: /usr/bin/update_prebinding
Jul 8 19:49:29 localhost installer: System Optimization failed. *** -[NSInstallerSecurity runTaskSecurely:withKey:onPort:]: selector not recognized.
What could be the cause of such a strange behavior and how do I bypass it?
I am using Mac OS X 10.3.9, but the problem seems to appear on 10.2 and, I believe, 10.4 as well.
Thanks,
