Installer and System Update Freeze

Hello,
Whenever I need to install anything with the
Installer.app or the
System Update the install process freezes in the final
phase - when
the actuall installation should take place and I get
this error in the
console.log:

Is there anything to be done to rectify this short of
reinstalling the
system? Maybe I could reinstall the Install.app?
My version is Mac OS X 10.4.7
