Hi All,
I am facing a unique problem, couldn't figure out exactly why it is
happening. The problem is:
I have created a installer package ( Smartpack.pkg ) using
PackageMaker
2.1.1. I have set the installer window's background image to
background.tiff image file. When I build the package and open it,
the
maximize button in the installer window will be disabled.
But when I create the same installer package without any custom
background image, and open the .pkg file, the maximize button is
enabled
and is working fine.
Can anyone Please tell me why is this behavior shown? How can I
solve
this problem? Is there any flags needed to be set to resize window?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Damodar.
Is the background image set to "Size to fit" or "Proportional"?
One of
those settings probably limits the window resize, but I haven't
tried it
personally.
Thanks Mike,
Yeah I have set a background image, and I tried it with both the
options - "Size to fit" or "Proportional". But the problem persists.
Then I did some R&D with PM-3.0 and PM-2.1.1.
I think the problem is that its the default behavior of mac
installer. I launched some of the .pkg files from the Xcode
developer tools installation CD. I found that the Maximize button
was disabled.
One more thing is that the if you build a .mpkg file from
PackageMaker 3.0 in Leopard( 10.5.2 ), the Maximize button is
enabled even if background image is set. And its only for .mpkg
files, not for .pkg files.
After these observations from my R&D, I came to the conclusion
that, .pkg files built with PackageMaker 2.1.1 in Mac OS 10.4.11
has its Maximize button disabled.
Inputs on this issue and the observations are highly appreciated.
AFAIK, the behavior is the following one:
(a) if you use a distribution script, the window is resizable.
(b) if you do not use a distribution script, the window is resizable
if there is no background picture.
(b) is to support forward compatibility. Because you would not
appreciate that a background picture which was conceived for a fixed-
size window can be used for a non fixed-size one. I know I would not
(IIRC I made a bug report against it some years ago).
What you're seeing in your last case is a bug in PackageMaker 3
(IMHO). When you select a 10.3 target, no distribution script should
be included into the metapackage.
