On the 10.7.1++ system I tried it on, the authentication dialog
appears when you click on
the Install button (both for an admin and standard user) whatever
destination you select.
It could be a sandbox issue (there are debug logs in Lion about the
sandbox not being happy with Installer.app).
It might be interesting to check the system.log file and the console log.
BTW, it might be a good idea to only show the standard installation
mode (no customization) because the list is a bit scary for an
end-user.
