Hi,
Thanks to Vincent Lubet, Josh Graessley and Mike Cohen for responding.
The problem turned out to be that the select() call in the UNIX
app was not returning a positive number even though there was
data waiting on the socket fd given to the select(). Strangely,
the problem seems to have gone away, even though I don't believe
we changed the select() call.
We're now sending and receiving loopback data without a problem.

I'm not having this problem. I just turned Web Sharing in the Sharing Preferences panel and with IE I can get at my local home page with either http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/.

Are you rather having problems between Classic and the native X side?
