You can't make this work in Classic running on X. PPPoE packets will
never make it to the classic environment. There is a virtual switch in
the X networking stack that determines whether packets from the network
should be sent to Classic, X or both. On the outbound side, the switch
determines if traffic from X or Classic should be sent to the network
or both the network and Classic or X. This switch operates only on
ethernet and PPP interfaces and only handles IP and AppleTalk packets.
The ethernet interface in classic is effectively a stub for the Classic
side of the switch.
