It's been a while since I looked at the details of 'xinetd', but unless
something in its design has changed recently, this program does not
advertise anything. It monitors a specified set of ports for incoming
connection requests. If these requests match its requirements, it
passes the request to a program specified by the configuration file.
There is no advertising involved.
I suppose you can set xinetd up to handle requests for services that
are advertised by mDNS, but I'm not an expert. This really should be
discussed on the Rendezvous list, since your solution is going to
depend more on mDNS than on xinetd.
