Please elaborate.

Unfortunately the 2 applications are not designed to be run on the same host. Typically the machine crashes when I've attempted to do it.

The calls are in bursts of several hundred at app startup and once a day thereafter unless the user requests a new list of data. Each time a new list is requested, the date is obtained for each line of text in the list.

Yup. That is exactly what I'm setting up.

No, I would say the clock issue is unrelated to networking. You could
try running the server on the same machine as the client.

Just how frequently are you calling GetDateTime? I suspect the drift
occurs from some interaction between getting the date/time, and the
natural progression of the date/time in the system.

You could work around this issue by running a NTP daemon on the client
machine (one that is constantly running, not one the sets the date and
leaves).
