Xauthority & network conf. change: bug, feature or FAQ?

I noticed a strange behaviour of my X11 access authorization.

Environment:
    MacOS X 10.3.latest
    X11 1.0.1 (standard one)

    X11 session started from:
	System Preferences
	    Accounts
		Startup Items

    X11 Preferences:
	Security
	    x Authenticate connections
o Allow connections from network clients

I only use X11 locally.
I change my network configuration many times a day, and I keep
sessions running many days which is usual on any solid Unix.

>From time to time I have problems to open a new xterm after I
changed my network configuration:
.---
| % xterm
| Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
| Xlib: No protocol specified
|
| xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0
| %
`---
Some other times, I don't get any error after such a change.

I read the FAQ:
    http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1232.html
and my X11 doesn't follow the rule explained there under:
Q: Why can't I connect to the X Server after a network config change?
It requires a restart of the X server.

Hence I have some questions:
Where is clearly documented the managment of ~/.Xauthority?
Is the behaviour I've noticed a feature, a bug or a misunderstanding?
How may I further analyze what's going on?
Did anyone already write a script to maintain the X11 secure access
following any network configuration change?

Thank you for any help (IDRTFM).
