> I've only skimmed your messages, but I notice that the word "GameKit" doesn't appear anywhere in them. It is the Apple framework that gets you real-time ad-hoc networking on WiFi and Bluetooth. Have you investigated it? In what way does it not meet your needs?

Hi Fritz ...

FWIW at this end: The last time we tried a big test of GameKit was February of 2010 (ie about 15 months ago).

At that time, I for one, found that GK is a bit slow. (I'm trying to find networking fast enough it feels like using a mouse, you know?)

I love GK and think it is amazing, but GK seems to have a lot of overhead (if you're talking about "mouse-like networking"), sends big chunks of data, and is quite opaque. (You have to figure out tricky stuff about it, such as, just the right speed to send a continuous tick, to keep the connection fast.) It's just not set up as, it doesn't want to be, a "mouse-like networking" system.

HOWEVER it's perfectly possible that (a) everything has changed and/or (b) my testing back then was crap for one reason or another.

Indeed, after I research the Zell Solution (TM), I am gonna research GameKit2011.

And I will let you know the results for sure, ASAP.

My feeling is:

even though GK, I think, would not be your first choice for such low-level networking, it could be that the Apple krew know about, and solved, the Bluetooth Horror (TM). In that case I'd be very happy to use it.

Dear Lou:

As a friend pointed out to me, it's just like the Five Stages of Grief:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kübler-Ross_model

I'm still firmly in Denial and perhaps moving towards Anger !

It's absurd, bizarre, risible, ridiculous, amazing, astonishing, nutty, that any developer would have to spend more than 5 seconds on the issue. You should just type UIRealTimeConnection *x and that's the end of it. The whole thing is impossibly silly and infuriating. Isn't the iPhone actually by dollar value one of the world's biggest gaming systems now?
