Philip,

Have you filed an enhancement request for that? If not, please do so at:

<http://bugreport.apple.com/>

And please include details on how you think it should work and why you think this would be useful to you and other developers.

Darrin, it sure would be nice to have a way of updating an Event via that XML once processed. Having to create a new Event each time is often sub-optimal.

There is no way to add any menu items to FCP's menus.

Many people write apps that modify FCP projects. They work by having FCP export the project, their app then modifies the XML, and then FCP imports the modified XML. There is no way to modify the XML before it gets to disk, but I'm also not seeing why you would ever need to do that, since you can modify it once it's on disk. Maybe if you elaborate on what you're trying to accomplish we could help get you there?

Oh, bummer. So just to clarify. I can't write a plugin that would create new menu items that would do an export and import.  The .fcpxml is what we need though, but we need to actually edit that .fcpxml before it is saved to disk.  If there is no way, that is fine. I just need to verify that it is not possible.  Thanks again!

No, FxPlugs can't do export. FxPlugs are just for image processing operations. You probably want to use FCP's XML export and import. You can learn more about that here:

Thanks! I must have overlooked it somehow. I think I went straight into just compiling the plugin in xcode then placing it where it should be.

The plugin I'm trying to create exports the timeline as one function and imports the timeline as another function.  Is this possible with FxPlug?

Oops - forgot to add the link to the docs. You can read about it here:

Did you create Final Cut Effects for them using Motion as described in the documentation?

I tried building and running the sample plugins in FCPX, but they're not showing in the application. Does it not work with the latest version of Xcode and FCPX or is there an intermediate step I am missing?  Thanks!
