I talked with the app store team (as they know about these things) and they
said:

So you can create your own supported installers using the above tools. If you
have questions about using them, I recommend the developer forums on
developer.apple.com <http://developer.apple.com/>, as I have not used these
tools before.

So it seems they will still work for one more release. (Which isn’t to say that
you shouldn’t update your process now. You should!)
