Can I ask you to show us some logs (ideally from the client and server at timestamp of failure), or documented time differences between logins, etc? If this is an issue with OS X we will need to see that you escalate it to AppleCare - the only place to put feature issues in front of Apple's engineers. Getting things reproducible and documented is the first step in figuring this out.

We have grave issues trying to use 10.5 server with 10.7 clients via LDAP (no AD involved) and managed accounts/mobile homes. We were able to get syncing to work for a user by migrating his account from a 10.5 client to 10.7 machine. Still can't login as another LDAP user from same 10.5. server, though.
