Sure, you can build something like that with WebObjects. You can also
build something like that with just about any other programming environment
for the web. It'll take at least a little bit of programming skill, and
work, though. That's what the company was charging you for, although the
product they offered may or may not have been overpriced.
I don't know that WebObjects is neccesarily the right tool for the job, if
you want a programming environment for the web for that purpose, but it is
a nice tool.
There may also be already written solutions that do just what you want,
that are available for free on the web somewhere. I don't know. But it
strikes me that's what you're really looking for, rather than a programming
environment like WO.

We are a photo studio, and one thing we would like to
do with our server is to have a database of images
that customers can access via a web browser.
This password protected database should be a visual
page of thumbnails in which they can download large
tiffs or small jpegs from the ones they like.
It should look like Extensis Portfolio or a contact
sheet.
We have found this company that sell server software
that does just this but they want a lot of $$$$$ for
it.

Is it possible to build something like this with
webobjects?
Thanks
