If you are a beginner with WO and SQL databases, and you want good performance, free database software, minimum hassle and no need to compile anything from source code, I recommend MySQL and use InnoDB tables as default. It is one of the databases "certified" by Apple for use with WebObjects.

I'm new to WebObjects, well I haven't actually started yet, I'm just
deciding whether to use it for my next project. I've been looking at the
various DBMS and things like Openbase and Frontbase seem a little highly
priced for my initial needs especially when you can use MySQL for free BUT
I'm not overly keen on using MySQL so I wondered if anyone was using or had
used 4D, they have a JDBC driver etc.. and are reasonably priced.

I'm looking to use it for a web application.
