It's hard to read between the lines when it comes to Apple, but what I
believe is that WebObjects has been reevaluated to what can be done
with open source / J2EE and what is unique to WebObjects.
So my guess would be:
Enterprise Objects and EOModeler will be continued, maybe extended for
some J2EE Entity Bean features.
WOBuilder could be replaced by a Editor that supports the
struts-framework, I think it would even possible to convert all WO-Tags
automatically.
WO Deployment seems to be on hold in favour of JBoss and other J2EE
compatible Application Server - however I don't agree on this decision.

The strongest case that WO is NOT dead is the iTunes Music store. Given
the focus of Apple on being the best cross-platform online music
provider, and all the Apple capital that entails, WebObjects will be
with
us and health for some time to come. The second strongest case is the
Apple Store. It is very lifeblood of Apple (how many of us live close
enough to bop down Apple mortar and brick store every we need
something--
its a 200 mile drive for me, not to mention that Apple uses the store
to
support its sales reps, etc.
This is a CORE technology for Apple's business, but then again I think
we
are up to about the 250th report of Apple's impending demise, so take
this all for what it is worth.
Having said all this, we would, of course, like to see some serious
updating of WebObjects Builder and the HTML it supports out of the
box. I
really think that could be done with very little (perhaps no real
impact)
on refactoring of existing projects. XCode was good step forward, but
an
NEW, equally forward step for the WebObjects Builder is well past due.

Hi,
I have been using WebObjects for more then 2 years now but something
has
struck me recently. That is the lack of any major developments in the
WebObjects Application Server. Sure 5.2 was released with a few extra
features (which I personally did not find very special or useful) but
in the
areas which matter nothing is going on. What about Apache 2 support,
Better
deployment? and full integration with standard Java (i.e. no more
nasty
NSArrays, being able to use ant etc) and junking the WebObjects
development
environment which apple should be ashamed of (we don't need it as I
have
java development tools). It seems to me that Apple are not giving
WebObjects any kind of priority, so after 2 year we now looking at
migrating
away from WebObjects to java servets and jsp just because this
technology is
moving forward and WebObjects is not. does anyone feel the same way
or
should I be looking at sticking with WebObjects...
Cheers,
Steve.
