The strongest case that WO is NOT dead is the iTunes Music store. Given
the focus of Apple on being the best cross-platform online music
provider, and all the Apple capital that entails, WebObjects will be with
us and health for some time to come. The second strongest case is the
Apple Store. It is very lifeblood of Apple (how many of us live close
enough to bop down Apple mortar and brick store every we need something--
its a 200 mile drive for me, not to mention that Apple uses the store to
support its sales reps, etc.
This is a CORE technology for Apple's business, but then again I think we
are up to about the 250th report of Apple's impending demise, so take
this all for what it is worth.
Having said all this, we would, of course, like to see some serious
updating of WebObjects Builder and the HTML it supports out of the box. I
really think that could be done with very little (perhaps no real impact)
on refactoring of existing projects. XCode was good step forward, but an
NEW, equally forward step for the WebObjects Builder is well past due.
Cheers,
Robert
