Who is "us"? Apple's Internet Services department?
The second strongest case is the Apple Store.
Perhaps. But those are internally developed Apple products/services and
I would venture that running ITMS on top of FileMaker wasn't a realist
option. [1]
One way or another, this doesn't say anything about the viability
and/or future of WebObjects outside of Apple.
To paraphrase the old saying: "What is good for Apple is not necessary
good for WebObjects".

[1] Even though one may wonder why they choose to do it the way they
did it. Running ITMS through a HTTP proxy, while entertaining, clearly
shows how not to design an API for the long run. WebObjects or not.
