I can vouch that JOnAS runs very very stable on a MacOS X Server,
provided there is plenty of RAM available (0.5-2Gb)... Actually I
haven't tested it on lower configs.... But it is more robust that JBoss
and since it does the generation of intermediary classes before
deployment, there are no nasty surprises at deploytime.
I even got Cocoon to work with it, which again is better than
WebObjects in many perspectives as a publishing framework, but like
Jonas vs. Jboss is still rough around the edges and do not have the
nice GUI (gooey?) tools. But let us not take up that discussion here.
I have been running an app on Jonas (from 2.5 to 3.3) on MacOSXServer
(from 10.1 to 10.3) with embedded tomcat (from 3.x to 4.1.x) on JVM
(1.3 to 1.4.1)... migration has been a mere twitch (recompiling the
intermediary classes).
Consult the JOnAS list to find out which aliases you need to create in
your $JAVA_HOME directory for the GenIC to work properly. I wrote it
there, but I keep forgetting it (that is the reason to eternalize these
things in mailinglists, so that even if you forget it, there is
something or somebody there to remind you!).
I would actually be interested in making the EJB backend with the WO
tools and the XML interfaces to the EJBlayer and then have Cocoon pick
up the rest of the work... how dependant is the backend on WO, I would
assume they are pure EJBs only.
