Maybe I'm speaking to a different problem, but I know that on Windows and Mac that if you run a Java Web Start application twice, you're asked if you want to create a clickable desktop application for it. Have you tried this to see if it solves your problem?


And furthermore, I don't think 10 seconds is a long time to wait for an application to load. In a modern operating system environment, the application shouldn't have to be started more than once per day. Once it's running on the client, let it run all day. Why shut it down?
