But the issue still remains with my vertical inheritance problem. I'm not able to modify any EO attributes which are inherited through vertical inheritance. Is this a quirk with me and I gave up too soon because of pressure from deadlines or is this something that nobody has noticed because vertical inheritance is dissed hardcore by the experts and thus nobody uses it?

Have you tried the Wonder cvs head version? And, by the way, I do use vertical inheritance ;-) ... er... but maybe I'm not an expert :-D
