Hi, James,

There have, over the years, been several posts strongly suggesting that images NOT be stored in/served from databases at all. They should be stored in flat files and their URLs stored in the database.

One of the better descriptions of why this is so is here in a post from Bill Bumgarner (a 1999 post, but the topic was old even then):

HTH.

Regards,
Jerry

Hello -

In another variation on storing images in a database, I was wondering if I could
actually store my images in a separate database from the rest of my application.

The reason I want to do this is for database administration, backup, etc..

I am using mysql, and I don't want to backup the binary data in the same dump
as the rest of the application.

So, do all I have to do is create a new EOModel for the the new database, and will
WebObjects automagically manage the relationships etc?

Thanks,
James Cicenia
